Bridgetown City barbados

Soar over Barbados' historic capital city.

This superb drone video takes us on an aerial exploration of Bridgetown, the capital city of Barbados and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We begin at the southern end of the Chamberlain Bridge, with views of Independence Square, the waterfront, Parliament Buildings and the Central Bank.

Flying west we get a closer look at Parliament Buildings (the 3rd oldest Parliament in the Commonwealth of Nations) and Heroes Square, before returning briefly to the waterfront.

A flyover of Parliament Buildings reveals the magnificent architecture of both wings of Parliament. There’s an interesting juxtaposition of old and new as the property directly behind these historic buildings is topped with an array of solar panels reflecting the island’s transition to renewal energy.

The oceanfront location of the city is revealed in the next footage as we follow the Careenage (where catamarans and fishing charters dock) out to the open ocean. Soaring over the Careenage we see several catamarans and boats safely tied up.

(For some reason we leave Bridgetown temporarily but are soon back in the city!)

Cruise ships can be seen at the Bridgetown Port, bringing visitors to the island.

Flying over the Independence Arch, Carlisle Bay with its magnificent beaches comes into view with the Barbados Hilton hotel in the distance.

The Constitution River can also be seen winding its way through the city.
