St.John Scenery barbados
Revealing Barbados' striking contrasts of ancient and modern.
Perched atop a cliff, the centuries-old St. John’s Parish Church serves as our launchpad into the skies above Barbados’ eastern coast. As we drift over the landscape, small villages dot the green patchwork below like scenes from a postcard.
The landscape tells two stories at once – ancient and modern. Pockets of towering trees stand as living monuments to the island’s original forests, before English settlers transformed the land into a tartan of sugar plantations. This nod to history is juxtaposed by a large solar farm, its panels drinking in the Caribbean sun – a glimpse of Barbados’ sustainable future.
These birds-eye views unlock a unique perspective of the island. Thanks to drone technology, skilled pilots, and modern innovation, we can all share in these breathtaking panoramas.
Gliding down toward Martin’s Bay, we’re treated to nature’s endless performance: the Atlantic’s waves meeting the shoreline in a dance of foam and spray. This tucked-away paradise, home to a handful of lucky residents and the beloved Bay Tavern (a local favorite), feels worlds away from the tourist spots.
Following the coconut palms southward, we take in the sweeping curves of the bay before turning inland. Our climb back to the church really shows off the dramatic elevation change – something you might miss from ground level.
A final slow spin gives us a moment to appreciate just how far we’ve wandered from our starting point, as the old church stands sentinel over it all, just as it has for generations.
